He said the Support Group has been expanded especially for those with mental health problems. This is something that would interest me greatly if it were true. Does anyone know what he is referring to? Thanks

I've just seen the interview with Chris Grayling from Newsnight last week.
He said the Support Group has been expanded especially for those with mental health problems. This is something that would interest me greatly if it were true. Does anyone know what he is referring to? Thanks
Hi A,
The descriptors have not changed since the ones that are relevant to the ESA50 03/11, which is still current.

I've watched it again and he says they made changes which have meant the SG has expanded over the last year, so I think you are correct that he must be referring to the changes to the descriptots brought in last March. I hadn't realised these changes had expanded the Support Group!

The Impact Analysis report produced by the DWP prior to the change of the WCA descriptors stated that they expected that there would be an increase in the number of SG placements. I know the previous target was 6%, but can't remember whether the expected increase was to 7% or 9%.I've watched it again and he says they made changes which have meant the SG has expanded over the last year, so I think you are correct that he must be referring to the changes to the descriptots brought in last March. I hadn't realised these changes had expanded the Support Group!
