I know of someone with ms who went through
the application process many years ago,
and she says a) it's thorough..and b) an
independent g.p. may phone to assess the claimant. Is that the case?

Hi S,

No two claims are the same.

It is ATOS who also carry out the medical assessments for DLA.

DLA assesments, generally involve a Home Assesment, however they can be done at a centre, and it is possible to gain an award , without the need of a face to face if they have enough evidence.

by implication then,Home Assessment..in the claimants' home..is the norm?..the more usual place/venue for dla assessment?

if my preference is a centre-based assessment, can I stipulate that,
or does the assessor decide on the venue?

With DLA, yes S, as opposed to ESA face to face assessments, were ATOS are very reluctant to carry out Home Assessments.

You could give your preference, but as always no guarantees that this is what will happen.
