what happens to those of us on DLA "indefinetely"

Hey there,

Just wondering if someone can clarify. I currently get middle rate care and lower rate mobility DLA indefinetely at the mo
Take it given the introduction of PIP, will i be reassessed?

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is not yet on the statute book, it is still a Bill going through both Houses of Parliament, the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

You can keep up to date with the progress on PIP rather than trawl through Hansard on the DWP's website updated regularly here :

What the change means

Between 2013 and 2016 everyone aged 16 to 64 receiving DLA will be reassessed to see whether they are entitled to the new Personal Independence Payment.

People entitled to Personal Independence Payment will have their claims transferred over and their DLA will stop.

Those not found to be entitled to Personal Independence Payment will be informed and their DLA will stop. They may be able to claim other benefits.

There are no current plans to replace DLA with Personal Independence Payment for children aged under 16 and people over the age of 65 who are already receiving DLA.

The indefinite allowance is one of the aspects of the benefits system that is under heavy attack.

Look through the Daily Mail and you'll see that they regularly get worked up about people who "are never checked on!"

They are convinced that this happens to almost everyone (as if) and dismiss those who point out that limbs don't re-grow, no one has found a cure for Parkinson's or severe autism.

So the demand that we go through this whole process once a year - or more - is being heard by readers of that sort of rag. And the government is only too happy to enforce this, and ATOS (or whoever) are thrilled at the prospect of all those extra "medicals". They're not going to find many people who should be off whatever payments they already have, so it's all going to cost more than it saves.

But that's the political climate, and we are all going to have to live with continuous re-assessment. This includes our doctors who are going to have to keep providing detailed reports.
