Hi, I wonder if someone could clarify the position on the 12 month limit for ESA. I was at the Job Centre last week and asked there. She told me that they hadn't been told anything yet. She had been asked by other people on benefits and she didn't know what to tell them. She went and asked her supervisor who didn't know either. She said that they hadn't been told anything officially yet. It's just that if it's going to happen in April 2012 my ESA will stop as I will have been on it for over 12 months. If my payments stop suddenly then I'm going to be in a real fix. Will they let us know first before they take action? Hope someone can help me? Thank you
The legislation enabling the change is not yet law, the next action is for a third debate of the Bill in the HOuse of Commons, so everything appears to be in abeyance at the moment.
As far as I am aware the DWP have not yet made public any procedures associated with the time limitation.
We'll try and make information available to members as soon as it becomes available, but like you we are waiting to find out how it will be managed.
