Review Decision ESA WRAG to Support Group was created by Richard1969
I've just been moved from IB to ESA and have been incorrectly allocated to the WRAG and not the Support Group.

I've asked the DWP to look at this again for me. I sent them a 7 page letter giving them full further details. I thought this was the correct course of action (I did this for my DLA award).

I've just seen on this website that a DWP form should have been sent in to ask for it to be looked at again... now I'm worried that I have gone about this incorrectly.

Will my letter suffice? I'm really worried now. :(

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks, Richard

Your letter should suffice, as long as you have made it clear that you are appealing. However, I have heard of someone who had their appeal turned down because it was not on the correct form. It might be worth phoning up in a few days and asking for confirmation.

There is nothing wrong with what you are doing, however, based on experience, we would normally recommend a claimant to appeal.

By requesting the DWP look at your Decision again, you are asking for a Reconsideration, if they find against you again, you can then appeal.

If you ask for an appeal now, the DWP will still carry out a Reconsideration (as they are required to), but if they do not change their minds, they will pass your papers to the Tribunal Service.

Basically, you are saving yourself having wait while the DWP carry out a second Reconsideration, which could be as long as 11 weeks or even longer.

The following FAQs may help

Is there any risk to challenging a decision?

How long do I have to appeal?

How to submit an appeal

Qualifying for the Support Group

Success! Quite unexpectedly I've heard back from the DWP and they've changed my group allocation and I'm now in the Support group.

Such a huge relief to me and my partner. It only took them 2 weeks to reply, caught me off guard when the brown envelope was on the doormat. I opened it, I was shaking, and there it was, in one short letter all my worries gone (for the time being anyway).

My 7 page letter must have done the trick and I didn't need to get supporting letters etc.

I guess I'm quite proud of myself really. I know many others in my situation don't get such a break as this but for a few days, at least, I can grin about it.

Thanks B&W for your guides and support.

Richard :)
