I have started permitted work. In lower permitted work is it £20 per week only I can keep. Would expenses 'count' until profits are made with self employment ? Would this keep you on lower permitted for longer if need be whilst money is not being made with no profit ?

You say you have started Permitted Work, have the DWP confirmed that that the work you are doing is acceptable to them as PW?
With regard to expenses, you need to get face to face advice, as it at the discretion of a DWP Decision maker as to whether they take account of these factors, and exceeding either of the PW limits, can have a significant impact on your benefits.
