Does DWP keeps previous DLA applications, can i u was created by kotenok
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if DWP keeps previous DLA applications with all supporting documents/letters? The reason for asking is that if one’s condition is not changed much and if one can modify an old DLA form and the supporting letters, according to present condition? Will DWP understand that the new renewal form is almost a copy of a previous one? I would really appreciate if someone could answer my questions.
Many and many thanks beforehand.

The DWP do retain previous DLA forms, but also operate a document retention policy which regularly destroys old file information, so the only way you will know for certain what they currently are holding for you is to make a Subject Access Request.
There is no reason why you should complete the DLA form based on your previous claim, however, you need to show that it is reasonable for your condition to have stayed the same, and that it is unreasonable to assume that you will have adapted to your condition since you were last assessed.
Even if you do intend to use the same information, I would still receommend that you have a look at our DLA Claim guides to ensure that you are submitting the best claim you can.

Thanks Gordon, my mother's renewal is in August and remembering how difficult it was for her to go through the last renewal/form i thought i could use the answers from the old form, plus there is not much changes, unfortunately she definitely got worth, but her condition is permanent and will never improve. Do you know how long DWP holds the documents for?
Do we still need to have an additional information, i mean like ticking the boxes and give more info on the condition and how it affects the person's day to day life- on a separate sheet of paper and wright in the answer box- see page N for more info?

K
The policy varies by department and document, there also seems to some variance in it application as I know of members who's documents should have been retained and were destroyed, and others where they should have been destroyed years before and were still available, so the only way you will know what is available is by raising a SAR.
You should always treat a DLA renewal as a new application for the benefit and provide full and detailed information.

Yes, you need to treat this exactly the same as your first claim.
