Is there a new 6 month rule for ESA ? was created by Nicko0308
I have just had my letter that I will get ESA on the grounds of disability - hurrah no Medical.
So my Drs letters helped.
BUT it tell me the benefit will be paid from 20th July 2012 to 29th November 2012 ?
This is only 26 weeks from my change over from Incapacity Benefit form .
I tried to ring DWP and got nowhere.
Thanks. xx

Congratulations on the award.
Ignore the November date, it appears on all award letters at this time of year and is not indicative of how long your award is for.
In fact, ESA awards are classed as indefinite, as they can only be stopped after an new assessment has taken place. You can find the likely date of this by requesting your ESA85A medical report from the DWP, and checking the prognosis.

Thanks Gordon, but I rang just now and the fella said I will have to aply for the Income based ESA and if my husband is working I wont get it ?
The words they used are
Your benefit is changing to Emplyment Support Allowance.
We willpay Employment Support Allowance from July 20th 2012. This will replace your Incapacity Benefit,Income Support on the grounds of illness or disability or Severe Disablement Allowance. We will pay your Previous Benefit up to the day before your entitlement to ESA starts.
You are entitled to contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance.
LOTS MORE
Then the part at the end re
" The amounts on this page apply from 20th July 2012 to 29th November 2012 ? "

As Gordon says, we gets lots of people with a similar questions. The November date seems to be something to do with the DWP system and does not indicate when you will be reassessed.

As you were on IB you will be transferred Contribution Based ESA on 20/07/12, until this date you will continue to receive IB.
Payment for ESA(CB) for claimants in the WRAG is limited to 12 months, see
12 Month Limit for ESA(CB)
After the 12 months you may be eligible to claim Income Related ESA subject to you meeting the associated means test.
I can only repeat my previous comment, the date in November is not relevant to the length of your award.
