Hi, Can you tell me if I take 5K out of my savings for a car, will the benefits want to know what I am spending this will leave me leaving me with 5K in my savings, I would like any help.

if your not means tested then over 8K you will have stoppages out of your benefit! so drop under 8k and your ok they only ask how much you have in savings not what you have spent it on thats your business. thats what happened to me anyway!

Hi rappa,

Besides your information being incorrect with regards to the 8k figure that you quote, how can you possibly make such a statement without even knowing what benefits or allowances that the OP is in receipt of, and without knowledge of his personal circumstances?

sorry i do apologise, in my case my case only( not IR based) its any savings over 6k has 1£ per £250 stopped from benefit.

In addition, people can run into trouble if DWP believe that they have intentionally deprived thmselves of capital in order to qualify for benefits. So it is essetial that the OP gets expert advice tailored to their circumstances.
