DWP MEDICAL was created by gingey
Received a letter today for my my sister to attend a DWP Medical in November. My sister has schizophrenia and manic depression.what will happen if we do not attend the medical,as it is a constanr battle to get her to leave the house, she is a danger not only to herself but others as well, yes i do take her to see her CPN every 2 weeks, and sometimes she sees the psychiatrist, but on these appointments it takes us around three hours to leave the house, and it leaves me absolutely exhausted. To travel to the medical which is quite a distant away from where she lives would be impossible what do i do

Hi s,

You are allowed to rearrange a face to face once, however, from what tou say, this will not really help the situation.

You should contact ATOS, which you can do by ringing : 0113 230 9175., it would be advisable to back this up in writing, to create a paper trail, either by e-mailing : This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or writing to :

Atos Healthcare,
Customer Relations
Wing G,
Government Buildings,
Lawnswood,
Leeds
LS16 5PU

Here is their website also : www.atoshealthcare.com/claimants

You should try and enlist the support of the G.P., CPN, or Psychiatrist, they may well Fax ATOS or give you something in writing to send to them.

You should deal with this ASAP, and unless you can gain written confirmation that attendance of the face to face has been cancelled, I'm afraid that you will have to try and get your sister to attend. Failure to attend without good cause can result in her being found "fit for work".

Did you request a "Home Assessment" in the ESA50 ?, even if you did, sometimes appointments are made before the ATOS HCP has seen the ESA50, so there is a chance that once you make them aware of your sisters limitations, they will cancel the "Medical"

Please let us know how you get on. :)

You may find this FAQ useful, if she does attend :

Thank you for your reply, i cannot recollect seeing on the ESA50 a section where i could request a home assessment, to make her travel all the way to her assessment would mean that i would not be able to guarantee her safety, or anyone else's safety.
If i was to get a letter from her CPN or Psychiatrist what are the chances that they would cancel the medical

Hi s,

It's mentioned on page 2 of the ESA50, that is where you should have requested a "Home Assessment".

I can only stand by the information that I have already given you, and could not really give a definitive answer as to whether the "Medical " would be cancelled or not.

I'm afraid that you have little alternative but to try, in the first instance by contacting ATOS.

We have heard from a few members who have had success in gaining a "Home Assessment" or having the "Medical" cancelled.

Obviously though, each case is individual to the person involved.
