Had my ATOS ESA assessment on 12 October 2012.

Couple of hours ago I received a telephone call from the DWP. After security questions and a brief preamble about me having attended for assessment, the caller asked "Has there been any significant change since the assessment? Has your condition worsened as it looks as though you won't get 15 points"

I declined to answer the questions, merely stating I would be taking the matter to appeal if required and ended the call.

It strikes me as strange that the DWP would phone to say "it looks like you won't get 15 points."

Anyone got any thoughts?

Hi J,

DWP DM's can ring claimants. if they are in the process of making a decision on an ESA Award, and it looks like they may be classed as "fit for work",(less than 15 points) to see whether there is any additional evidence that they need to take into account.

You should receive written confirmation of the decision , in due course.

As bro says, the DWP sometimes phone claimants, if it looks as if they will not gain 15 points, in order to see if they can gain any information that would be in your favour.

Many thanks for the information. Guess I'll start preparing for the appeal.

It sounds as if that would be a sensible course of action :(
