ATOS HCP Specialists/Training

I have read some information regarding the ATOS HCP to have specialist training/knowledge of the patient they are carrying out the assessment on.

One of my conditions is paralysis in 2 of my limbs, would this need specialist training/knowledge?

Hi WD,

I believe that claimants with certain neurological conditions are supposed to be assessed by a Doctor, only.

However, we are not aware what specific neurological conditions are covered.

You may wish to have a look at the ATOS website, and put your query directly to them :

There was a similar query to this recently, and even though I could not find a definitive answer, I did find some information. I will try and find it, and post if I do.

There is a qualification for doctors, see Diploma in Disability Assessment

However, only qualified doctors of medicine are eligible to sit this examination, but few do.

Nurses, Physiotherapists etc are not allowed to sit the DDAM, it's for qualified doctors only.

As a matter of interest very few doctors choose to sit this examination, as they can still can carry out medical assessments with minimum doctors qualifications, usually ChB and BS, although some doctors do have the higher degree of MD.

Note : ChB = Bachelor of Medicine, BS = Bachelor of Surgery and MD= Doctor of Medicine.
