I have been diagnosed amongst a load of other problems with COPD (Chronic obstructive lung disease)
My GP has said it causes the usual probs and has clearly demonstrated the syptoms and long term probs relating to it.
I lookrd on the DWP A-Z of illnesses along with the prognosis and discovered it says an indefinite award for COPD.
what does this really mean and how does it equate to DLA/PIP award and for ESA.
Would it be of assistance to highlight COPD and that an indefifinite award is be applied under DWP guidance, would it help for SG inclusion.

Whilst a diagnosis is important, although not essential, it will only be supportive in a claim for any of the benefits you mention, it will not in itself qualify you for any of them.Good afternoon,
I have been diagnosed amongst a load of other problems with COPD (Chronic obstructive lung disease)

For DLA you will need to show that your COPD causes you to have care and/or mobility needs.
For ESA, and in the future PIP, you will need to show that as a result of your COPD you meet one or more of the relevant descriptors, by way of which, entitlement to these benefits is decided.
An indefinite award means that the DWP have decided that there is no specific need to re-assess you in the future, however, it does not mean that they cannot or will not do so, should they decide it is necessary.
I hope this explains it.

I used the guide for the first time and thought it was as you discussed above, but just neede clarification.
When my next round of form filling starts again in April(that was when they said the form will plonk on the mat), I shall have to remember to item out all illnesses/diagnosis along with their limitations etc along with the med evidence, letters from consultants, gps, nusrses and the list goes on and on.
Even though I was given an 18mnth in SG, I find I stil have to keep on top of it all ready for it starts all over again especially with ever increasing changes ESA determines from ATOS and the arbitory views from whoever looks at your case notes and form filling.
Seems very much like 4 dentists giving feed back on your state of teeth, all with differing degrees of answers. No help at all really
