Hi tb,
Invalidity Allowance was the name of the benefit before Incapacity Benefit, (Before my time)
Were you previously in receipt of IA before IB, as I believe that there was some transitional protection.
Invalidity Allowance (Transitional)
higher rate
11.70
10.70
middle rate
5.90
6.00
lower rate
5.90
6.00
I have noted the above under Incapacity Benefit Rates 2013/14, as seen from the link on this post :

just been thinking about it yes I might have been on invalidity allowance the rate for 2013 is showing as £10.44 with the graduated pension of 26p that would make £10.70 high rate.
Will i still get this assuming with ESA and one more query having read other posts, if your put in the Support Group is there still 365 days CB then IR ESA?
Also I dont at the present time pay tax on my IB as it was paid before they started taxing benefits will I still get ESA untaxed do u think?

Hi tb,
I must admit that I am not that well informed on IB, however, have a look at this extract :
"•where IB is payable to a person who was entitled to invalidity benefit prior to 13 April 1995 (when incapacity benefit replaced invalidity benefit) provided the benefit is in respect of the same period of incapacity. (However, if the person was entitled to Sickness Benefit prior to 13 April 1995 then the IB became taxable when that person started to receive the short-term higher rate of IB.) The DWP may ignore short periods of work when determining a period of incapacity, but if a period of work is not ignored, so a recipient who had a period of incapacity before 13 April 1995 starts a new period of incapacity after that date, the IB will be taxable after 6 months under the normal rules.2
From : www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM76180.htm
Although the above is pertaining to TAX, it indicates that IB came into being from 13 April 1995 .
By the way, I was wrong on my first post it was not called Invalidity Allowance, it was known as Invalidity Benefit
As I've said, before my time.
Maybe Gordon or one of the other Mods could provide a definitive answer.

I had to retire early and was on Sickness Benefit then Invalidity Benefit before being transferred on to Incapacity Benefit. Added on to my benefit was an amount for Invalidity Allowance which relates to, if I remember correctly, the age I was at the time I had to finish work. Like you, it was an age ago now so cannot remember exactly.
