Would anyone happen to know if renting out a room in your home (not providing meals etc),would affect your ESA(C)., if financially within the permitted government threshold for not paying tax?
Many thanks

Thought there was something in the ESA(C)information, along the lines of; 'you must inform us of anyone else ..................................................?living/moving in with you',but are we able to assume that it refers to a 'relationship', rather than a paying guest?

Hi P,
You don't say whether your property is rented, mortgaged, or bought outright.
Obviously, if it was rented, you would have to check that you were not in breach of any of the terms in your tenancy agreement.
If mortgaged, again worth checking.
There could obviously be implications if you were in receipt of HB, or CTB, and you would have to check the rules with your LA, and get face to face advice.
There are other potential future events that you may wish to consider, e.g. if you were placed into The WRAG at any future reassessment, (CB ESA) and your 365 day entitlement to payment was exhausted.
Would payment from a lodger then bar you from qualifying for IR ESA ?
Just things to bear in mind.

As always, if you are unsure about anything, get professional advice.

Yes P,
It would be wise to inform The DWP regarding any change in circumstances, even if on the face of it, there would be no change in your benefit payments.
It would be advisable to investigate fully, before committing yourself .
