I was looking for details on how the assessment will be conducted - what they will ask me etc, etc, and the only thing I am finding is a listing of all the question which I have already answered on the form - is that what will happen.

I read somewhere the other day that someone was thanking this site for the information because all the questions they were asked at the assessment were what this site had told them.

I also fall into the form change situation and do not know how/if that will affect my assessment. The form was sent on 27th December and because I did not photocopy the pages with my name address etc I do not know which form it was.

Thank you

If you look at the sections referred to in the ESA Claim guides , that you have already been referred to, you will see that they cover the following

- Preparing for a medical examination
- What happens at your LiMa Computer Controlled medical
- Questions you are likely to be asked at your medical.

The section that Gordon mentions can be found from page 69 onwards in the first of the ESA guides.

And another thing I would advise, take an extra cardi because it was freezing in the centre I was at, and definitely take some anti bacterial hand santizer as the toilets were in a terrible state and everyone was asking me for some of mine.

Hi J,

With respect to your first paragraph :

MHB has already provided you with the correct link :

ESA Medical – What to expect

From the above link you will be pointed towards "Employment and Support Allowance claims on physical health grounds (Page 63 onwards)," This page 63 would be in this ESA Claims Guide :

"Employment and Support Allowance claims on physical health grounds: a guide to the work capability assessment. " under this heading :

"'Old' ESA50 form, decision on or after 28 Jan 2013", on this page :

ESA Claims Guides

There is also information regarding questions that you may be asked here,( page 67 onwards) :

"Employment and Support Allowance claims for Mental Health and Learning Difficulties "

Under the same ESA Claims Guide section as above, on the same page.

You will see that The WCA Handbook is also referenced, this is guidance given to ATOS HCP's on how they should carry out the face to face assessments, and is most helpful.

This is the 2nd from bottom link, on this page :

ESA Claims Guides

With respect to your 3rd paragraph, as above, in that you will have received the old ESA50 03/11, but the decision on your assessment will not be made until after 28/01/13.

A bit of advice from me regarding your face to face, it is not a medical, it will be conducted using LiMA software on a PC.

You will be asked set questions, and assumptions will be made from your response.

You will be observed from entering the building, (and maybe even approaching and leaving) and whilst you are in the building.

Again assumptions will be made from these observations.

Your method of travel to and from the centre will also be taken into account, and again assumptions will be made.

Therefore I would treat the assessment as starting from when you leave home until your return.

Further information can be gleaned from the ATOS Website ;

www.atoshealthcare.com/claimants

I hope that this now clarifies things for you.

Good luck, and please keep us updated.
