Get proof of your PIP entitlement online
If you need a letter showing your entitlement to PIP, or you just want to check your award, you may be able to obtain this online in just a few minutes with the government’s One Login service.
You can get proof for:
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) - all types
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) - all types
- Pension Credit
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- State Pension
The service doesn’t cover universal credit.
And you can’t use the service if you are an appointee.
Once you’ve registered, you can get the information straight away and download the letter to your device or you can ask for it to be posted to you, but this will take about a week.
To use the service go to the Get proof of your benefits and State Pension page on the gov.uk site.
You’ll then be taken to a page where you can either sign in with your gov.uk One Login if you already have an account or create one if you don’t.
Please note, this letter is not the same as a PIP certificate of entitlement which you receive with your PIP award letter. You cannot use it to apply to the DVLA for free vehicle tax.
Send a letter or documents to PIP
If you have a specific return address on a letter or form, then you should use that. If you have received correspondence from PIP with an address on it, you can use that. Otherwise the general PIP postal address is
Freepost DWP PIP 1, with no postcode or stamp required.
Try to get proof of posting and keep a copy of anything you send. If the DWP do not require original documents, it is always safet to send copies.
Find your PIP assessment provider by postcode
If your query is about your PIP assessment or appointment, you may not need to contact the PIP helpline at all. PIP assessments are carried out by different organisations depending on where you live, and you can contact the assessment provider directly.
Check the beginning of your postcode against the lists below. For example, if your postcode is EX4 4PY, look for EX.
DWP carries out PIP assessments in these postcode areas
If your postcode begins with one of the following, your PIP assessment is carried out by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), rather than one of the private assessment providers:
B14, B17, B19, B78, E5, N2, N3, N4, N6
Unfortunately, if DWP is carrying out your assessment and you need to discuss your appointment, GOV.UK says you should contact PIP directly.
