severe disability premium was created by soprano
Hi, I received a form to fill in for the severe disability premium as I am on ESA SG + PIP standard rate mobility + standard rate care. I understand there are rules regarding living alone as to whether you can claim it so my question is ..I rent a room in a house and share the bathroom, kitchen, toilet etc and pay a rent of £56 pw under the "rent a room scheme" The owner of the house works full-time as I am on my own for most of the day my daughter calls in every day to do the shopping for me. I told the HP when I had my pip assessment so it will have been noted on my records and no one claims carers allowance for me. Do you think under these circumstances that I will qualify as I am not sure what "lives alone" means for this benefit, once again thank you for all your help and support as I like many would be lost without BW....Soprano.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

The regulations are black and white with a big grey area in the middle, so it may be for Decision Maker to actually decide. but based on your post I would think it likely that you qualify.
Living with some one for SDP is about the expectation that you could receive care from another person living in the same property (so that should exclude your daughter), the important things are having your own rent book and separate living space, a shared kitchen and bathroom should not be an issue.
