Filled my dla form in myself advice please was created by Markov
I have finally sent off my dla application form today. Does anyone think it will effect my claim due to the fact i filled my form in myself. I have applied on mental health grounds and used the guides to the letter. I stated tho that my mum helped me fill in the form and i had to keep stopping constantly due to my concentration. I have also sent my esa medical report and a statement from my mother and my friend and my doctor said he will do his very best for me when they contact him. Obviously i have been and spoke with my doctor before i sent the application off and filled him in. I am going to go back and see him this week for an update. Does anyone think it will effect me that I filled the form in myself. Thank you for taking the time to read

Hi Markov,
Well done for getting the form completed and submitted!
I don't think there be any problem with you having filled in the form yourself - unless that is at odds with any of the things you have reported (for instance, you had said that you were unable to read or something like that).
At the moment, DLA renewals don't seem to be taking as long as ESA or PIP claims, here's hoping this is so for you.

I do not see why it would count against you, it has obviously taken you considerable time to do, I remember that you actually missed the original deadline and had to request another form, this is not the mark of someone who found it easy to complete the form.
It's good that you have spoken to your GP, it is often a step missed by claimants.
I am afraid we are not aware of the timescales involved in a DLA claim in N. Ireland but the target time used to be about 11-13 weeks, they should write to you to confirm receipt of the form.
Let us know how things progress if you feel up to it.
Good luck

Thank you for your replys i appreciate that. Yes it took me a very long time to complete the form 3 weeks. I loose concentration very easy and it mentally drained me. I had around 26 pages of additional information with my claim. I have been told though that the decision makers dont take much notice to what we actually say on the forms ourself its more what the doctors say. I just hope they award me something as i cannot work the way i am and i could be doing be extra money. My worries are always due to the fact i dont see a phychiatrist, i dont see the point in a psychiatrist anyway as they are only really interested more in schisophrenia and i dont hear voices or that.

Many of the forums members have been "parked" by the NHS and no longer have current access to a specialist for treatment, so the fact that you are not seeing a psychiatrist is not that an unusual a situation.
The DWP Decision Maker is required to look at all of the information available, this most certainly includes all of the information you provided on the form and any evidence that you attached, the best advice I can give you is not to dwell on your application, it's going to take so time before you hear anything and there is nothing more that you can do at the moment.
