Changing from DLA to PIP

It says on your map that I am due to be reassessed in June this year. Post Code BN, Now I am on lifetime award, was visited by doctor in 1996.
We go away in our caravan for weeks at a time, UK only now as my husband has terminal illness.
What do I do if the form comes through while away?
You say that people over 65 (I am that since 2014) are the last to be assessed and it may be in 2018???
I am at a loss, I don't want to contact them and rock the boat

He has a rare illness, called IPF. Pulmonary Fibrosis. He get Attendance Allowance.
Living in our towable caravan is wonderful for me, small cosy van and my fully electric wheelchair.
I live in fear all the time, one hears such terrible stories.
Has anyone got any thoughts on this problem? PLEASE??

Welcome to Benefits and Work

If your forum name is also your real name, you may wish to change it to maintain some anonymity.
This can be done quite easily by following the instructions on this FAQ :
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
The fact that your Postcode becomes "PIP Active" in June would only be relevant if you had a fixed term DLA Award due to end or you reported a change of circumstances regarding your medical condition/s and resulting limitations.
All current DLA recipients with Life/Indefinite Awards who were below 65 years of age on 08/04/13. will not be invited to claim PIP until "sometime after October 2015" running until October 2017.
It is is stated that these "PIP Invites" will be carried out at random so for you, it could be any time between October 2015 and October 2017.
You do not have to contact DWP to instigate your move over to PIP.
When your time comes you will receive a letter form them.

However, it still leaves me with the worry, from October '15 till October ' 17, that is a long time to sit and worry about being away.
I have been reading all the PIP Test and all the questions, I am "sure" I will not have a problem???? but as I said you hear such stories.
I did see that some will be picked at random rather that all retested.?
Having the letter arrive when we are away is the problem with only 28 days to
reply, is the real fear.
Thanks bro58

Hi LE,
Yes the random selection from Oct 2015 to Oct 2017 is rather vague but that is all the guidance that we are privy to at this time.
My only suggestion would be to get a friend or relative to check your mail at home at least weekly whilst away from home in your "van" if feasible.
As you seemed to have grasped, once the "invitation" letter is received you must comply with all deadlines within the transfer process.
Failure to do so would result in your DLA being stopped and as you are now over 65 you would be forced to make a fresh claim for Attendance Allowance (AA) not PIP.
AA has no "Mobility" component !!

Hi LE,
I don't know how long the periods are that you are away, but another option may be to get your mail re-directed to the address of a friend/relative who could then contact you if an invitation arrived.

I am much worse anyway.
But my husband is terminally ill, I don't know how much time he has left. We want to spend time together, doing what he loves most, Trains!!
It will be so hard with this hanging over us, constantly worried the letter will come while we are away. He wants to go to Australia to see our daughter, if he passes the consultants breathing test, in October. The one the airline need, for fitness to fly.
One is allowed to go away for 13 weeks, out the country, so how does that work? do we tell them we are away? Will that stop the dreaded letter?
The council are going to build ramps outside for my chair, that will be done in the next few months, they are also giving me a wider front door that will open without me getting out of the chair.#
I have a plastic ramp at the moment, it is so frightening going up and down it.!!!
Has anyone else gone back for reassessment, because of the fear of getting a letter while away?
I really think that it would be worth it. I have a son near, but he runs his own multi million pound
company and is always away or busy.
I don't have many friends, as I am house bound!!

Any advice welcome X
