DLA TO PIP TRANSITON was created by newb
My husband is 50, 16 years ago he suffered a injury at work, then he was sacked, eventually after years of claims and appeals he received IIDB for life @ 60%, he is on Support group for ESA and DLA High for care and Low for mobility.

He was discharged in 2013 by his psychiatrist into community as he was advised his condition was not fixed and would never improve, in 2013 his employer finally awarded him a low IHR pension of 40 per week, again after 11 Years of distress and appeals.

We are now in a position he is not able to work, suffers from Schizoaffective disorder and PTSD, with chronic depression, he was awarded Indefinite DLA in 2009, but now we have to start all the process again and I am not sure how he will cope?

He is stable but consistently at a low level of functioning, which was agreed and accepted by DWP to be 60% according to the IIDB assesments for life.

My concern is, will he have to attend a medical (as he does not go out) he does not answer the phone, let alone go out unless someone is with him, he stays in bed if anyone comes, but there are days when he can go out, with me or my sons, but that does not mean he is ok at all.

He is on a long list of antipsychotics, and is taking anti- depressants, but will all this matter to the DWP, as they will want recent reports, but my husband is not now under the care of a CPN as they said his condition was not one where further intervention would help it improve?

He worked from the age of 16 until his ill health in 2001, I am concerned that this assessments together with the latest psychiatric reports which will not be available as he is not under the hospital will hinder his claim and make matters much worse for him, I know the DWP don't care and this government is just slashing the benefits payments, but where and how do I PREPARE let alone get the claim to succeed when my husband is unable to attend assessment's, and I have little knowledge of the system, hence me joining the Benefits site here.

He has not been called for a transition as yet, I may be worrying - but I can not afford my husbands condition to deteriorate to the point where he is sectioned again, this would ruin him.

Sorry for my rant, I just need help to understand how I can proceed with this and if any of the other benefits like the life award at 60% for IIDB would assist or not?

Welcome to the forum.

The Assessment Providers (AP) can make recommendation without the requirement for a face to face assessment, but I cannot guarantee that they will, it will depend on the information you supply and whether they consider it sufficient.

The award criteria for PIP are very different from the benefits that he is currently receiving, so I would start by having a look at our PIP Claim guide to understand what they are and to allow you to ready for when he is invited to claim PIP.

Hi k k j,

I am confused as you talk about recent psychiatric reports but also say that they will not be available. If you have, or can get a copy of, these you should submit them as evidence with the PIP2 form. Do not wait for DWP to contact your husband's medics as this rarely happens.

Thank you for the response this is most helpful of you all!

Sorry for the confusion the most recent Psych report is from 2013 he was discharged into the community after that as they stated they have too many patient's and as he was not a suicide risk, he would be cared for in community, i.e through the gp and Support worker, which he has not visited as he does not go out, they no longer do house visits due to shortage of staff, we are in leicestershire
