PIP decision HELP! was created by fastmoggy
Wife just got the dreaded brown envelope and our worst fears confirmed.
Lost both parts of Mobility and down to standard rate for daily living.
Thankfully we haven't got a mobility car otherwise things would be worse than they already seem!
Mobility down from 20 to just 4 and daily living from 14 to 8, although we suspected that this bit would happen.
Ok so now I really need help, Her mobility hasn't changed since the last time she was assessed so really taken aback at their decision!
0 points for planning and following a journey unaided.
unfortunately, and the HCP was told this! that she cannot follow any route without assistance from another person ,so on that I feel that an MR is the correct thing to do although the threat of loosing the first component is very worrying.
So, before I make that call to inform the DWP that we'd like a MR, what's the procedure?
Ive had a look through the 'Challenge to PIP decision A guide to mandatory reconsiderations February 2015 but at moment im still feeling numb and don't want to 'jump straight in' guns blazing!
SO question for now is....When I make that call, do I have to say why we want to challenge the decision OR do they send out a form to complete?
Any other help would be greatly appreciated, But at the moment were both feeling a little low and neglected.
Thanks in advance for any help

You've got a month to make the call (see below) so it's perfectly all right to take a few days to collect your thoughts and get over the shock.

You can call the DWP but we actually advise members to make the request in writing, that way there will be no doubts about the request being made and how you want them to manage the MR, for example, will you send further information.

There have been several updates to the guidance issued by the DWP in regard to the Going Out Descriptor and it is quite likely that it is these that have caused the reduced points, have a look at the guides in the appeal section for PIP which explain these changes in more detail and how to tackle them.

When you've had a chance to process the letter, come back to the forum if you need more help and we will do our best.

Just to ask, When we make that decision to call the DWP, can we site our reasons for objecting to the decision or do they just acknowledge the call and follow up letter and just hand it to another decision maker to decide?

This is why we suggest making the request in writing, that way everything can be contained in the letter and there is no risk of miscommunication between the call centre staff who are simply putting your request on the DWP computer system and the Decision Maker who will actually look at your claim.
