PIP was created by Jenny Fernandez
I am in receipt of DLA higher rate and lower rate care. Over the last 9-12 months my medical conditions have deteriorated in terms of care and ESA suggested that I instigate the claiming of PIP.

I was not called for a medical when I claimed ESA and even when I was medically retired I was not asked to attend a medical. I have been claiming DLA since and every time I had I had to appeal and attend a tribunal.

I have been invited to attend a medical for PIP and I am sick with worry over this. My appointment is in the morning 35-40 miles away and according to the aa route finder will take approximately 45-60 minutes. I am agitated over this as they are aware from my application form that I suffer with stress and anxiety when travelling to unfamiliar places and driving on a motorway. Atos are also aware that I will have to be accompanied, the assessment has to be on the ground floor, and that I need easy available access to a disabled toilet.

I have checked the website for guidance but I could not find the answers that I need. I am not at all experienced with a computer and therefore would be extremely grateful if I could be advised on what I need to do in terms of the following: -

!) Is it advisable to request a home visit after my GP has stated in a letter that I have reported I can attend a medical accompanied and can travel up to 20 minutes in a car?
2) If I have no alternative but to attend a medical what can I expect at my medical and what do I need to do?
3) Does anyone know what questions they will be asking and what I need to be aware of?
4) What do I have to ensure I mention if not asked?
5) Does anyone know what trick questions if any Atos may have.
6) Can you please direct me if the above is covered on the website?
7) I believe I my have exaggerated on one or two points and this is causing further added stress. PLEASE Does anyone have any suggestions?
8) All information even if not relating to the above questions would be helpful!

Thank you
Very Worried

Welcome to the forum.

A lot of your questions are answer in the PIP Claim, there is a section at the back that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

With regard a Home Assessment, if your GP has stated that you can attend then I think you will struggle to get a home assessment, the best you are likely to manage will be an appointment closer to your home. If you do move the location then you will have to attend that appointment as you can only re-arrange once or the Assessment Provider will return your file to the DWP and they may close your claim.

Write yourself a checklist of points that you want make at the assessment , you can tick it off as you go and raise any issues that have been missed at the end of the interview.

Best of luck

Gordon
