Hi David
Do you mean you have been given an appointment for a home assessment, or you need to have a home assessment?
If you need a home assessment, - i.e. if you would have extreme difficulty in managing to get to an assessment centre, you would need to explain this on your form, and provide a supporting letter from your GP explaining your issues, and then it would be up to the assessors to decide whether you could be given a home appointment.
If you mean you have been told you are to have a home assessment, it is just as it sounds; someone will visit you in your home and go through the assessment procedure there. You would be able (and would be well advised, I think) to have someone with you at your home when the visit occurs; the assessment would take place where in your home (in which room) you want it to be; no one calling to assess you has any right to look round your home.
I hope this is enough explanation for you - if not, please get back to us.

Welcome to the forum.
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
Have you actually received an appointment for one or are asking about one that has been arranged?
If you are trying to nook one then you will need the support of your GP as they will need to write to the Assessment Provider explaining why you cannot attend at their offices.
If one has been booked then it will not be significantly different from one held at their office, if you look at the back of the PIP Claim guide there is a section that covers this and the questions that you are likely to be asked.
