Mobility for over 65s

Hi, can anyone help with a query please?
my mother-in-law is 80 yrs old, and now can hardly walk or look after herself. Is there any similar benefit to DLA or PIP to help with a mobility vehicle?
I understand that PIP ends once someone reached the age of 65, so what happens when someone is older? It seems a rather strange and unfair system to me

You are right in saying that there is no new mobility allowance for anyone over 65. A claim for Attendance Allowance can be made for care needs but I think the argument is that pretty much everyone over the age of 65 gets mobility problems at some stage. There is help re the AA application in our members guides.


You mistaken in saying that PIP ends when someone reaches 65. PIP will continue after state retirement age at the rate in which it was paid before this, as long as the criteria continue to be met.

I have read the topics referring to still getting PIP after the age of 65, as long as the claimant qualifies.
Does this mean, that we would still have to go for the face to face assessments even into our 65+, 70's 80's.
I thought that there should/would be a cut off point where we wouldn't have to attend these stressful assessments no more, but still continue to receive the award.
I am 65 in March 2019. I have my pip awarded to March 2019, but it does state that they can call me back after March 2018. They called me back a year early last time too.
Cant help but worry.
