Terrified, pip assessment tomorrow
- bro58
Van wrote: Assessment went a lot better than I expected. The assessor had a genuine understanding of my conditions and could see that I'd got worked up about it and that I was feeling uncomfortable. All the questions he asked me were in your guide so I knew how to answer them and the assessor and my carer helped me with that as well. So now down to the DWP, could take up to eight weeks to get a decision. Thank you for the support and advice, that was a difficult 24+ hours.
Hi V,
I am glad to hear that the face to face went o.k. !!

You could give it a couple of weeks then phone the PIP Helpline for an update :
PIP Helpline :
Telephone: 0345 850 3322
Textphone: 0345 601 6677
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
Whilst on the phone, you could also request a copy of the PIP PA4 Medical Report which the PIP Assessor would have compiled as a result of your face to face.
Some members have managed to obtain this before receiving the decision, some have had to wait until after.
Good luck and please keep us updated by replying to this topic !!

Sorry to hear your claim was unsuccessful.
You can make a new claim for PIP, challenge the Decision or both, but be aware that a Decision on a new claim will limit any result from a Tribunal if it goes that far.
Making a new claim is the same as when you were invited to claim PIP initially
The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process and template letters that you can use to make the request with.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip
You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;
"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"
than their opinions
"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.
When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
