Could I ask a Mod a question re ESA50? was created by IamShell
Hi, I filled in an ESA50 mid 2012. I had a f2f and was placed in WRAG. After a MR I was transferred to the SG for 18 months. I receive IR ESA, no other benefit eg PIP.

I was sent a new ESA50 to fill in late Nov 2013. I filled in the form as fully as I could and, as I have not seen a specialist in some time due to there being no targeted therapy, my doctor provided a letter of support. I did not have a f2f this time and end Jan/ beg'g Feb 2014 I received a letter to say I would be in the SG. I called them and was told it was for a period of three years. I believe it'll be due in the next 6 months or so...not totally sure..

I get very stressed about assessments and struggle with the whole process due to my condition and anxiety. I wanted to ask if the ESA50 form has changed radically since I last filled it in in late 2013 (without a f2f)?

My condition is no better but I was alarmed by a post I read here were a person who is clearly very ill was found fit for work at their latest reassessment despite having been in the SG. I'm not sure, if someone is not at all improved from the time they were placed in the SG, how they can be found fit for work... It has really concerned me. It's a bit of a leap!

Can I ask you to point me in the best direction for resources I should be looking at in advance? I want to be prepared as well as I can be, and as things take me a long time, I want to start early.

Also, do they now demand/ expect support letters from loved ones? My mum falls to bits when she has to talk anyone 'important'. I have a friend who would be willing but expect mum would be preferred?

Thanks! :blink:

There have been no changes to the ESA Descriptors and Regulations since January 2013, so the criteria against which you are assessed are the same, there have been some cosmetic changes to the ESA50 but nothing important.

If you want to prepare for your re-assessment then there are two things you should be doing;

- go through the ESA Claim guides to make sure that you are familiar with the criteria you will be assessed against, you can even make a start on filling in the ESA50 if you want. See

Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

- think about what evidence you can source and from whom, in particular what the timescales to receive it might be.

It's entirely up to you whether who you ask relatives, etc. for supporting letters.

I would not read too much into the post from earlier today, remember that the majority of the people who post on this forum have done so because they have a problem with their claim, but that's still a very small number in comparison to the number of people who claim ESA.
