What to do ????? was created by Ang0510
(written on behalf of myself by a friend).
I am/ was self employed on a low income in receipt of a small top up payment of Working Tax Credit. Years back I was very unwell with Bipolar and Arthritis in my hands (quite severe then, unable to undo lids, tops etc) of which I have been in receipt of the lower mobility.. Despite that I managed with medication to plod along (so to speak).
Today I live with my 17 yr old full time 6th form son who is in his 1st yr of A levels. Also after years in hospital, my eldest son now age 29 was discharged and came home to live with us. I then also became his full time carer in February 2016 and as well as working around my disabled adult sons needs. I was only too happy to have my son at home at long last.
I too now have become very unwell.. Without going into detail my doctor gave me a sick note on 19th of this month for 2 months and today after being seen by my psychiatrist it seems that it will be a long process for my mental health to stabilize as my arthritis deteriorates .
So now as from today I am unfit for work now. I have no personal income or savings. What do I do now ??? Am I able to apply for a benefit? If so which one? I'm confused as I went to the job centre. (How things have changed) I have spent hours on my phone in a queue even with no joy.
.
I was given this information from the Citizens advice. Can anybody advise me please.
I would be so grateful.. If only I knew who to turn to. Thanks for any feedback or advice...

We did provide you with advice about this last week
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?view=top...=10&id=109388#159028
If your GP is prepared to issue a Fit Note you can make a claim for ESA, have a look at our ESA guides on the following link
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1
You can either make a claim for ESA over the phone or by downloading and completing the ESA1 claim form, see
www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/overview
