PIP MR was created by india
Hi

I am new to this forum so forgive me if I come across badly! I have just received 0 points on my assessment for CFs, extreme anxiety, depression and BPD.

I did not use the guides on here at the first stage so my question is how do I use them now to write my request for a mandatory reconsideration. I am scared of messing up a second time.

I really need help and feel lost

If you can advise me I would be very grateful.
Thank you

Hi India and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm sorry that you are going through this :(

As you say, your next step is to request a Mandatory Reconsideration. Our PIP guide has a section that explains this process (and appeal, if things get that far).

PIP help for claimants

If you have not already asked for a copy of the assessor's report, it will be helpful to do so. That will help you understand why you did not score points as you had expected. The criteria for PIP are very different from those for DLA and this has been the undoing of many claimants.

If the report does not arrive in time, don't delay getting the MR request submitted. You can give brief details and say that you will send in more information when you have the report.

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future. This will allow you to return with more questions/comments without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Thank you very much. I hope I am replying to you in the correct place! I have just been speaking to my psychiatrist who says she will write on my behalf but that it is difficult without the DWP contacting her. They did not do so first time around and I am guessing they won't a second time..can I insist they contact the professionals involved in my care plan?

Is the MR a second almost fresh chance as I do feel I messed up first time.....now I have seen your guides should I approach this as if Ivam starting again or just build on what I said last time but go thro the descriptors in the way you advise.

Sorry to be long winded. I really appreciate your time.

If they have not contacted your psychiatrist as part of the assessment then they certainly won't do so during an MR.

To try and set your expectations for the MR. Revision rates are low but they do happen, oddly the more complete and detailed the claimants original form is the less likely they are to see the DWP update their Decision, the reverse is true at appeal. So your not using our guides could be to your advantage, however, Decision Makers tend to view the form as being the more representative picture of the claimants problems, they seem unable to grasp the idea that the claimant may have actually misunderstood the criteria against which they are being assessed :(

So to answer your question I would build on what you have already written, go through your PIP2, the assessment report and our Claim guide to see where you have failed to show that you meet the criteria and fill in the gaps. It could be that you have fundamentally misunderstood some of the criteria or it could be that you have failed to show that you meet all of the requirements, many of the PIP activities have multiple elements, all of which need to be met to receive points.
