Does PIP relate to ESA in any way? was created by jpg2502
hope this makes sense, i had a PIP medical late last year, which i got the standard rate for, and i have just received an ESA50 for my reassessment, (which is long overdue), so looks like i will soon have to go for another Medical for ESA. i was just wondering if they at all refer to the PIP Medical for guidance, is it possible to pass PIP but fail ESA all within one year of eachother? I am obviously panicing and thinking of worst case scenario.
My medical for PIP was with ATOS, i presume ATOS no longer do the ESA medicals?
also is it possible for you to point me in the direction of the guide on this site for filling out the ESA50, and points system? thank you

Hi Jay,

The criteria for PIP and ESA are very different from each other. For a start, it is perfectly possible for someone to be on high rate PIP and also work full time. Even where the descriptors seem to be the same, the requirements are actually quite different.

The assessor will have no prior knowledge of you, nor will s/he be aware of whether you are already in receipt of any sickness or disability benefits. For this reason you should fill out each claim form in full and not take anything for granted. Submit copies of supporting documents with each form.

Everything you need to know should be in the ESA guide

ESA claims and appeals

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future. This will allow you to return with further questions/comments without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
