PIP Application was created by Concerneddaughter
Hi All,
I need some advice. I care for my mum and helped her complete the pip form as her disability and health got worse over the last year.
I've sent the form special delivery and it was received on 9th June. We've received a text on 14th June from atos about appointments in the next 7 days in our area. When I called it was in a centre over 2 hrs away which is impossible for my mum to get to. I told them that's too far and she advised to wait for the letter.
My question is does this mean mum would definitely need to attend a medical assessment? Reason I ask is because I am wary whether they've actually gone through her form. It was very detailed with letter from go, support worker and a hospital consultant all backing up mums conditions.
Also, if she does need to attend is obliged to attend regardless of where it is. Mums also suffering from depression and anxiety and the worry is making her sick.
Thank you in advance

Yes, without you sending further information, your mother will need to attend an assessment.
Please make a note of the date and time that you phoned ATOS about the appointment, as it was a short notice appointment (within seven days) it should not count against your mother that it was refused, but they sometimes forget about this.
If it would help your mother it may be possible to switch to a home assessment but this will only happen with the support of your GP as you will need them to write to ATOS explaining why she cannot attend at their offices.
You can cancel one appointment, whatever the reason, but she will have to attend the next appointment wherever and whenever it is or she risks having her file returned to the DWP with the possibility of her claim being closed.
