Support Group Status Up For Reassessment

More

After fighting my corner twice, I was awarded the ESA and put into the 'support group'.
That was in October 2012 and last week I received another ESA50 questionnaire to fill up.
My health status hasn't changed - so, I'm as unable to work now than I was then.

I would like to know if my current 'support group' status will impact how my new ESA50 questionnaire will be viewed by the health assessor/DWP - and how I should approach the filling in of said questionnaire in view of my current 'support group' status.

Hi Alice and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Under normal circumstances, 3 years is about the longest period a claimant will be in the Support Group without reassessment. The system did get overwhelmed a while ago and many people has their reassessment postponed, but things seem to be back to 'normal' now.

It is likely that the next assessor will have no previous knowledge of you or your history of ESA claims. For that reason you should treat every reassessment in the same way that you did your original claim. The ESA50 should be completed in detail and all supporting material submitted - even is you have done this umpteen times before!

It is up to you whether you want to point out that you are currently in the Support Group and believe you still meet the criteria - but it will also be up to you to prove this each time.

You will give yourself the best chance of framing your difficulties in terms that the assessor and DWP understand if you use our ESA guide. This also points out where things might have changed since your last assessment.

ESA claims and appeals

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future. This will allow you to return with further questions/comments without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place - and I hope you find it useful too :)
