completing first pip form from dla - ManagingMoney was created by momcalindon@hotmail.com
Hi there- new to this forum, so sorry if I ramble on a bit!
Just completing my son's first PIP form from DLA too. His is a physical disability (hemiplegia), so most of the physical aspects of the form are reasonably straightforward for me to fill in . The main areas I'm struggling in are to do with Making Decisions about Money (he's 16!!) and also Preparing Food (again - he's 16!!). I've answered the food bit as if he had to prepare a meal for himself (which he has never had to do as he is living at home). Basically he couldn't do it, wouldn't know where to start and yes, a lot of that has to do with his disability (although I guess a lot of other non-disabled boys of 16 might have similar problems - ?). But as to managing money, I'm really stumped as to what to put down. He doesn't earn money or contribute to a household budget as he is still at school. If he had to, I'm sure it would be a nightmare as he doesn't have the maturity or sense to know how to budget (how many 16 year olds do?). The who section really isn't relevant to him, but if I imply that he doesn't have a problem with it, then the assumption will surely be that he can manage complex budgeting decisions!!
Any advice/ suggestions will be gratefully received! Many thanks

Hi andWelcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
I have given your query its own topic. Unlike many fora, we prefer to keep things separate as otherwise the wrong information can be given/taken.
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
I understand your point about managing money. Could you relate this to times when your son has had pocket money or birthday/Christmas money to spend? You don't have to fill in the 'mental health' questions if these are not applicable to your son.
Don't forget to make full use of the PIP guide
PIP help for claimants
May I suggest that you bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future? This will allow you to return with further comments or queries about your son's PIP without having to start a new topic each time. It helps us enormously when one topic deals with one claim - and I hope you will find it useful too
