PIP, how do Atos decide who assesses.

There is a definite requirement for ESA, WCA assessments to be carried out by a Doctor or specially trained nurse for client with Central Nervous System Diagnosis. Wife had to WCA's cancelled by Maximus and third carried out by a Doctor (see my Phanton Wheel Chair thread.

i have just read the latest (Sep.2016) Pip assessment Guide whichdoes not mention this requirement.

Being a bit of a cynic. The requirement in a WCA is probably because there would be bad press if a WCA sent a entailment back to work and they had a Stroke without a qualified HCP having carried out WCA

As there is no "made to WORK when evidence shows they may have a Stroke" implication for PIP

I think you have misunderstood the question that was asked, this topic has nothing to do with DLA assessment reports being used for PIP

To defend Micksville , i thought you use of Documentation included the Claimants record held by DWP on first reading but then realised you were talking about the Regulations and "Official" guidelines

There are certainly guidelines that both ATOS and Capita use to make a decision on this, there is a copy of these in the public domain for ESA, although it predates Maximus doing the assessments, but I've not seen a copy for PIP and we do know that the documentation for DLA is not used for PIP assessments.

The problems is both Assessment Providers appear to regularly ignore the guidance and the claimant has no rights to demand a doctor over a nurse on the day.

Very fortunately I was given PIP at the enhanced rate after a home assessment.

However I have a friend, also a polio survivor, who has just been given zero points in an ESA assessment, her assessor was a physiotherapist. Our on-going condition of Post Polio Syndrome is a neurological condition, hardly understood by the medical profession at large, never mind physiotherapists! Can my friend insist on a doctor?

I'm afraid your friend cannot insist on being assessed by a Doctor. However, it might be to her advantage at appeal if the person who did the assessment could not be expected to have any understanding of the condition/s from which she suffers.
