Thanks Gordon.

I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions but I need some more advice.

I relation to Universal Credit in your reply you said that only new claims for HB and ESA(IR) When I separate from my partner I will be moving to a new area which means I will be making a new claim for housing benefit but I am already receiving ESA(IR) couple rate. Does this mean I could be transferred to Universal Credit.

It's not impossible, currently UC is in two stages of implementation.

The vast majority of the country is live for new claims but not when the claimant is already receiving what is termed a legacy benefit, so your ESA will exclude you from claiming UC and you would claim HB.

There are an increasing number of areas that are termed "full digital", in these are you can only claim through UC. The following can tell you what your new area supports.

Thank you for that info Gordon it says that in the area I'm planning on moving to only certain people will get UC.

From what I can see I think I won't be affected by the change which is a great relief because I would be much worse off!

Thanks so much for your advice it has put my mind at rest.
