A big thank you for all the advice and pointers that this site offers; invaluable for all of us who have to struggle through the complex hurdles the benefit system seems to throw at the vunerable.
Great news is that after a 4 month wait and 3 chase up phone calls and a duplicate letter requested; as the first one did not arrive; i have been awarded (not sure i like this word awarded, is that really what the disabled are labled with) the higher rate for mobility and care; thank goodness.

The assessment was just as expected as stated by this site, the initial wait, the 'leave your wjeel chair there and walk to the meeting room', the ' leave your wheelchair outside the meeting room' and the 'move from your wheelchair to the office chair' invitations. The assessment was 50 minutes during which my husband was continually told that the words had to come from my mouth not his, even when i was visibly in pain and distressed. The one thing that the assessor; a physiotherapist, could not do was to physically assess me due to my pain levels. Not surprisimg really, what with the 45 minute travel there, the wait 30 minutes (at least) and then the (50 minute assessment, quite tough for a person who remains mostly housebound.
The one thing which was surprising was my assessor reaction; maybe they are human, my assessor cried when i gave replies to her questions about my daily life. Its my life, my every day, but she cried!
Anyway, I have been awarded PIP rates until the next round of assessments start again, for me its sometime during 2019.
Good luck everyone and thank you again to The Benefits and Works site.
Kind regards

Peter, pleased you are receiving what you deserve.
Did you refuse to walk to the meeting room ?
Did you leave your wheelchair outside the room ?
Did you do a transfer onto an office chair ?
And what was the reaction if you did refuse ?

Did you stay in your wheelchair all the time?.
CAB advisor has told me to stay in my wheelchair.
I wondered if they can make you get out unless you are paralysed .

You are entitled to refuse any physical activity if it would cause you pain or distress but you will need to explain why you are refusing and the assessor may still make assumptions about your capabilities.
