PIP Mobility Query was created by Steve Coles
My wife has been transferred from DLA to PIP and has been awarded Enhanced daily care and Standard rate Mobility component, is it worth trying to get a reconsideration for the points not awarded for her being unable to plan and follow the route of an unfamiliar journey without assistance.
The reason for refusal was that she used to drive and at the assessment was able to hear the assessor speak from about 3 meters.
Because of her physical conditions, it is over 20 years since she has driven a car, and because of allergies to hearing aid moulds causing recurring infections, our GP and her Audiologist have advised her not to wear the aids unless really necessary.
She only needs 2 points to qualify for the Enhanced rate Mobility, but is concerned that she could lose the award completely
Has anyone gone through the process who could advise if it's worth it ?

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
What did she score the ten points for, the Going Out activity, the Moving Around activity or both?
Do you know what Descriptors the points were awarded for?

There are two routes to score extra points;
showing that she cannot stand and move (walk) more than 20m or
showing that she should score points for the Going Out activity. This is about
Planning a route - this is primarily a cognitive or sensory (e.g. blindness) activity.
Undertaking a Journey - this is do with mental health issues such as agoraphobia and social anxiety and is concerned with leaving the house to go somewhere, they will be interested in the things that stop her doing this. If she can leave the house but risks not getting to her destination then you will need to show that she would suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" to meet the criteria.
Following a route - the DWP regard this as a cognitive or sensory activity to do with navigating the route, to score for mental health issues you will need to show that your anxiety is so extreme that it would prevent her from actually navigating the route.
