Hello guys, i have been lurking on here for some time but i finally made an account as i require some help and i feel that this is the best place to receive it..
So i am in full time work doing 40 hours a week but recently i have been really struggling with a bad knee that ive had 5 surgerys on, with another planned this year. secondly my other knee i just had an mri scan on and also is going to require surgery. Im going to have to drop my hours down in work to be able to cope in the next week or two.
My wife is a nurse and works full time and we have 2 kids, one which we get dla for as she struggles with autism.
I had phoned in today and got the ball rolling with a claim for PIP, i am unsure what else i can apply for or am entitled too. Im unsure if i can get esa while i am working. Is there anything i am missing out on?
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
You can make a claim for ESA while you are still employed, but you will need a Fit Note from your GP and also to have exhausted any Statutory Sick Pay that you are entitled to.
Have a look at our PIP Claim guide in regard the criteria that you will need to meet in order to receive an award.

Hi Gordon, thank you for the reply. So for me to be entitled to ESA i would have to go off sick and exhaust my SSP? Is there a way for me to claim it while in part time work?
Thanks

Not until the SSP is gone.
There is something called Permitted Work which allows a claimant to work for less than 16 hours a week and to earn up to £115.50 a week. But you can't do PW until a claim for ESA is accepted and your doing PW will definitely count against you in the assessment process.

Thanks for the reply Gordon, one other thing.
What would you say is the deciding factor in regards to being awarded PiP, for example the ay in which the form is filled out or the assessment?
Im due to see my Dr this friday to get some sort of evidence to support my claim, im not a complainer so i never really go and see him regarding it. My knees crunch ectremely loud, like at night climbing stairs could wake the house but im a little nervous about what he is going to supply me with as evidence.
i have difficulties walking, sometimes but not all the time.
i also worked in my local job centre for a while and i witnessed people i know coming in crutches etc when i know they didnt require them.
Sorry this post is a little unstructured but if im claiming mobility because i have problems sometimes then surely i should show them that i need walking aids on my assessment, even if i may not on that particular day.

You can't separate what you include in and with the form from the assessment, you need both to be successful for an award, if either of them are bad then you are unlikely to receive an award.
You need to be able to complete the PIP activities reliably and on the majority of days not to score points, have a look at the PIP Claim guide for a more detailed explanation.
