Paying Missing National Insurance Contributions

I'm on income related ESA because I didn't pay enough National Insurance during the two years before my claim started. I have the opportunity to pay these two years but I wondered how my claim might be affected if I do?
I know it'll mean I'll be eligible for contributions based ESA but will that just come into play when I'm reassessed or will my entire ESA history be looked at? If it is, will I be worse off?
I'd like to pay it to add two years to my pension credit but I'm very concerned it might cause more trouble than I can cope with or indeed afford.
Thank you

You cannot buy NI Contributions (see Below) only NI Credits which count towards a full state and in part towards ESA(CB), you still need actual NI Contributions.
The exception to the above is if you were registered for self-employment where technically you have to purchase your Class 2 BI Contributions.

I'm sorry for such a long delay in replying. I'm going through a relapse whilst knee deep in the process of swapping from DLA to PIP. I'm waiting to see if Atos will grant the at home medical I've requested.
So far I've received two letters from them on the same day, one saying they'd considered all the evidence and decided I still need to go to an assessment center and would send a new date and, one saying they're contacting my doctor for more information and would let me know whether or not I needed an assessment at all, so it's clear as mud and I haven't heard anything in the two weeks since.

You cannot leave this situation as it is, you need to find our whether an assessment has been booked for you or not.

Is there any chance of getting an at home assessment now, or even one closer to home?
What happens if I can't go or if I manage to get there but feel too unwell to stay for the duration of the assessment?
