ESA while still employed was created by Mackemlass
Background
My daughter has been signed off work since October 2016 due to uncontrolled seizures (currently averaging 6 a day). She has exhausted her entitlement to company sick pay and SSP, and since 20 April 2017 her only income has been contribution based ESA with Housing and Council Tax benefit. We have yet to receive an ESA medical questionnaire, and I have twice reminded the DWP of this.
We are currently awaiting a decision on PIP, having had her face-to-face assessment on 17 May 2017.
QUESTION:
Perhaps I shouldn't anticipate problems, but having read horror stories I'm wondering what happens to my daughter's benefits if the DWP declare her fit for work? She already has a job, which she loves but is too ill to return to at the moment, so she wouldn't be able to work elsewhere or claim JSA . We've never claimed benefits before and it's all very confusing! Any advice would be welcome!

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
You/she should chase Maximus for a copy of the ESA50 form, it is normally issued by week 5 or 6 so she is at the upper limit for receiving it.
www.chdauk.co.uk/contact-us
If she is unsuccessful with her claim then she does have the option of challenging the Decision, but there will be a period during this process when the only benefit available to her will be JSA or Universal Credit. We can provide more advice on this if needed.
Please make sure that she uses our ESA Claim guides to help her complete the ESA50 when she receives it.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1
There is also a downloadable copy of the ESA50
Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire
If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thank you, Gordon. You're a star.
I phoned DWP again earlier today asking for the ESA50. After being put on hold for a while, I was told my daughter's claim was in the queue and there was no need to call again asking for the ESA50 unless she did not hear by the end of the 13 week assessment phase, but not to worry because if she was eventually put in the Support Group any payments would be backdated. (No regard as to how she manages financially in the meantime!) I have decided that I'll phone again next week, and in the meantime I will also write.
"If she is unsuccessful with her claim then she does have the option of challenging the Decision, but there will be a period during this process when the only benefit available to her will be JSA or Universal Credit." Haven't looked into these benefits yet.... hoping I don't have to... but surely she wouldn't be able to claim JSA as she already has a job, it's just that she's on long term sick leave? I've no idea about Universal Credit and will do some research into that if the time comes, but at the moment I'm still trying to get my head around PIP and ESA! I'm studying the guides and making copious notes! Thank you.

I'm afraid that you are wasting your time calling the DWP about the ESA50, it is issued by Maximus, so they are the ones to chase.

Thanks Gordon.
I rang the number quoted on the CHDA link you gave and they said they had no record of my daughter's claim for ESA ; they could not trace it through her National Insurance number; and they do not issue ESA50 forms. ???? They advised me to go to the Job Centre to get them to print one out.
I can't access the pdf version of the ESA50 through the link you gave - it keeps telling me to log in, which I've already done - but I've got one from the gov.uk website - ESA50 04/17, which I hope is up to date. Can you tell me what address I should send the completed form to? (It simply says to return it using the envelope enclosed, which obviously we did not get!)
Isn't this fun!

I'm afraid there is no standard or single address to return the ESA50 to, you can try contacting the DWP again.
It's possible that the process has changed, but my understanding is that it is Maximus/CHDA that issue the ESA50 so an address may not be available until the DWP pass your daughter's file to them.
