Apologies

I have had my Mandatory Reconsideration NOTICE & leave to appeal which I need to lodge this week. Although I've kept copies of letters from my therapist & psychiatrist which I sent in with my original questionnaire, I've never had a letter from my G.P. They know about my situation & are aware of my periods of depression, anxiety & difficulties in leaving the house, I thought medical evidence from the therapist etc was more pertinent. I see from my research that it would be a good idea to add a letter from my G.p. with my appeal letter, especially as I had exhorted the DWP to contact my G.P. over number of issues that were overlooked or misreported after my medical, but of course, they didn't. I now discover, at this late date, that the G.P. who has been across all of this is away on leave & I won't be able to see her until the 12th June.
Obviously, I need to lodge my appeal in time (letter dated 8th May, therefore I calculate I must post it tomorrow), but my question is will it be o.k. to explain the situation, in the hope they will accept a letter in two weeks time which would be ages before the actual hearing, or should I chase a report from a G.P. who doesn't know me, but would write something gathered from my notes? I'm sorry this is so last minute. As this process has gone on, each stage seems scarier than before & it took me several days just to read the letter from DWP & the more I find out, the closer the deadline, the more paralysed I feel. Pathetic, really. I hope this gets through as I've been having problems accessing things ~ some routes work, others give a system message. So, fingers crossed. Thank you.

Although been a member for a long time, unfamiliar with forum protocol ~ in fact, don't do this sort of thing anywhere so flying blind. I know my last message about the g.p. letter ~ should I/shouldn't I? is v last minute & currently, I'm thinking that it's daft to rush through a 'report' from a dr who doesn't know me, which will cost me £20 by the way.....when I will be able to send tribunal a more considered one in a couple of weeks time. AS LONG AS I lodge main appeal in time????

Imogen

You only need to provide basic reasons for your requesting the appeal when you send the SSCS1 form to the Tribunal Service.

Once your appeal is accepted the TS will notify the DWP who will create their submission for the hearing, containing their reasons for the Decision and all of the documents used in it's making, they will send you a copy.

Once you receive the "bundle" from the DWP you can then prepare your own submission which is when you would need the letter from your GP, so you don't need to source it now.

Have a look at our ESA Appeal guide for a better understanding of the process.

Thank you so much! I thought I was whistling in the dark there. I didn't know there was that intermediary step & it's a HUGE relief to know I just need to provide the basic reasons. Mainly the mistakes arising from the medical...?...But yes, I'll have closer look at ESA Appeal guide. Phew! Thank you for answering.
