You are entitled to refuse to do anything that would cause you pain and/or exhaustion. However, you should make it absolutely clear why you are refusing. Even then, it is possible that the assessor will simply report that you refused. This is why some people prefer to have the interview recorded.

Thanks for your reply. You mention recording the interview, I did this with my UC claim but with this PIP they seem to have changed the rules from them providing the dual recording device to you ( the claimant ) having to provide the device. Its not like you can buy one in Argos and it seems to be a piece of specialist recording equipment they use in recording studios and too expensive for me to buy just as a one off

You don't need specialist equipment, two cassette recorders will do, although this will still be a cost.
