IAS letter to let us know we've asked for further was created by Paul PIP
Hi
My wife has just had a letter from IAS stating:
"We're writing to let you know that we've asked for further information from people involved in your treatment or care. ....Once we've got the further information we've asked for, our Health Professional may be able to finish your assessment report for DWP without having to see you in person."
My questions are:
Is this a standard letter that pretty much every one gets?
Are they likely to get the further information? (we've had a nightmare with this - attached everything we had with the application - but still haven't had copies of consultants letters requested through GP)
Is there a timescale they are working to? (don't get the information in 2 weeks so go ahead with f2f...?)
Also most of the professionals she see's wouldn't know how her conditions affect the PIP descriptors.
Sorry so many questions - even I'm getting stressed by the whole process and I don't have sever anxiety as my wife and many of your members do.
Wonder if there is a case against the DWP for its mistreatment / victimisation of people with disabilities?
Thanks for all your help.
Paul

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I actually haven't heard of this letter before although it was mentioned by another member last week so it is certainly not something that every claimant receives not least, because the Assessment Providers rarely write to the medical contacts.
I can't answer whether they will receive the information they need, you know the doctors you included on her form, are they likely to provide relevant information within a reasonable timescale? It might help if you contact the GP or whoever else was on the form and warn them that they may be contacted and that they need to reply promptly.

OK, we have now received a letter dated seven days later saying that:
"one of our health officials has looked at the information you sent to DWP, as well as further information from the people involved in your treatment or care. After doing this we've decided that we need to see you in person to discus your health condition or disability further."
Home assessment booked for 11th July.
Coincidentally we were at a GP appointment the following day and the GP stated he had not been contacted at all. I suspect they have not even attempted to make contact.
Would it be advisable to request any information / records they have made and received in relation to this additional information?
I'm thinking do it now as it may have an impact if we are disputing their decision and need to go to tribunal. They will take time (20 days?) to get back.
What do you think?

If they have collected additional information, emphasis on the "if" then I'm afraid you will have to wait until it is passed back to the DWP before you can request a copy. You can make the request alongside asking for a copy of the assessment report, a couple of days after the face to face.

Thanks Gordon
I'm coming more from the following thinking:
1. We have provided a psychiatric report which details her current mental health condition and requested that a face to face is avoided on this bases.
2. Their initial letter shows that they are taking this into consideration and seeking to avoid a f2f.
3. If in fact they have NOT sought additional information then I would like to elevate this, still with the hope of avoiding a f2f.
Would it be wrong to bring this to their attention now (in writing to DWP, copy in IAS)?
Kind regards
Paul

Why don't you ring IAS and find out what is going, have they attempted to contact the GP? Why are they requiring a face to face given the information they already have?
