DID MY WIFE HAVE A SMILING ASSASSIN ASSESSOR? was created by Huw Morgan
Hi forum readers,my wife has had to apply for PIP as she is currently receiving the middle rate of DLA and the higher mobility rate due to her raft of medical conditions, and as we live in South Wales, she has had to apply for PIP.
Firstly the guides on this website have been invaluable for filling in the application form,so please utilise them guys, they are great.
After sending off the form with as much evidence as we could get,we were duly sent the appointment for the assessment. This was 4 days ago now.
We had a phone call from the assessor asking to come an hour earlier due to a cancellation which was no issue.
She sounded really pleasant on the phone and we thought that the assessment might not be as bad as we thought.
WRONG! From the moment she walked into our house she was watching my wife to see how she behaved, how she looked, how she was sitting as well.
I have read on various places that the assessor ask different questions than the application form but our assessor went through every question we had done again!
My wife has concentration issues and memory problems from all of the medications she has to take and when she struggled with an answer and I spoke up to help, the look I got was as if I had said I was going to throw her out!
My wife had explained that she no longer drives and that I drive her everywhere now,but the assessor picked up on one thing when my wife said she goes to church and drives sometimes!
What my wife wanted to say was that she used to drive but the assessor jumped on it and we had to explain it was from when she could drive.I really dont know if this is going to cause us problems but the other reason for writing this post is to say to whoever is due an assessment, make sure you know the answers you put on the application form, they are trained to pick up on the smallest of discrepancies.
I hope that this little bit of information helps anyone and fingers crossed that we dont have to go down the route of appealing the decision!

Hi Huw Morgan
Sorry to hear about your poor experience, You should be able to request a copy the assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with your wife's claim mid next week.

Hi Huw,
Just to say that in my last assessment when the assessor asked how long were we out at the shops I said 'from leaving home to getting back home probably around 45 minutes'.
The report said that 'as he spends 45 minutes walking around a supermarket he has no mobilty issues' even though I said I sit in the garden section after a very short 'walk' leaning heavily on a trolley while my carer does the shopping.
My leg is deformed and bowed due to advanced arthritis and when I do walk it is with a pronounced limp due to the pain and I stop frequently.
Anyway, I won't bore you with the whole story, but I scored 0 points across the board which was thankfully overturned at the MR stage.
Yes, if they get chance to 'twist' things to suit themselves, make no mistake they will do that if their 'stats' are down. I'm not the vindictive type but I really hope that woman was severely reprimanded after what she did to me.
Good luck,
Phrank.
