Mr Roy
I would not expect this to work, the DWP to know that you have reached State Retirement Age and they will apply a Notional Income that will reduce your wife's ESA, you also risk there being a recoverable overpayment if it is subsequently found that you could have taken your pension and had not done so.

Great Advice as usual there Gordon, and it was what I was thinking of doing........
However, I have just recieved another strange letter from Jobcentre Plus informing my Wife that as from this March 6, her ESA ( SG ) is being increased by over £100 per week, and I am totally baffled by this, and has thrown us both into confusion. As we do not know what to do.......
Any Ideas on this one......
Thanks
Mr Roy..

Mr Roy
Not without more information!
Have there been any changes to hers or your benefits?
The letter should have a breakdown of how the payment is made up, compare it to a previous Entitlement letter to see what is different.

TBH Gordon......
I haven't got much more information to supply you with::
The Letter just shows, just what my Wife has been entitled to ESA ( SG ) weekly, for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and it goes up by trivial amounts each Year ( which are all correct ) but now this large increase all of a sudden. There has been NO change of Circumstances at all for either of us ( Apart from my query to start this thread ).....It gives NO information at all for the increase.... Although I did read on here a while back that LOADS of people were being contacted about underpayments of ESA, but I would have thought that would have a one off payment, but we have not been contacted about that ( As far as I know ) So I am totally baffled about this one......Not sure if I have given you anything to go with there TBH.....
Thank You....

Hi Mr Roy
I would contact ESA enquiry line 0800 169 0310 and ask, that way you will put your mind at ease, don't forget to take the name of the person you speak to.

Hello Mr Roy
I saw your post and in similar situation myself. My husband hasn't claimed his pension. He got a letter last year saying he could defer and it would be worth more. He left it as we were worried about ESA. I claim ESA as a couple. I think it's income related. My husband is 66. I have now had letter saying ESA will be reduced in June without him claiming state pension. He doesn't want to claim it as worried we will be worse off and losoe housing benefit. Just thought I would let you know.
