FREE PRESCRIPTION was created by Oluremilekun
Hi Gordan, . I was informed that as I was on pip and esa that I might be entitled to a refund of all the payments that I have been making for my prescriptions since I was awarded ESA in 2017. However, on contacting the NHSBSA, I was inform that I was not eligible as I was on contribution based ESA support group. I contacted the DWP and a ESA 05/18 was sent to me. I was told it was for me to fill to change my benefits to income based ESA.

However, I am terrified. I had to take on the DWP for mandatory consideration as well as attend court to get this in 2017 when I had to stop work as I could no longer cope, and still battling every day with mental issue this form sitting on my desk gives me nightmares and I am not sure what to do? i did do a bit of reseach on this site trying to understand why i had to fill out the form, but my brain just sorts down. Please your help or advice is deeply required?

e.g

1.Why am i on contribution based
2. do i have to be called for an interview each year because i am on contribution based ESA?
3. do i have to fill a form to go on esa income based inorder to get my prescription free?

Hi Remi

ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment based on the Prognosis Date completed by the assessor in their report, so your existing ESA award continues in payment until a new Decision is made.

Unless specifically excused from further assessment then you should expect your ESA award to be reassessed on a regular basis, anywhere from three months to two years for the WRAG and three years for the SG.

Contribution Based ESA is based on the claimants previous NI Contribution history, if you met the criteria for ESA(CB) then it is automatically paid.

Income Related ESA is ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, savings and assets, . See; Asset and savings rule for ESA(IR) www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claim...um-faq/esa-faq#ESA50
You have to be on ESA(IR) to get free prescriptions.

As you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA you should check whether you are eligible for Income Related ESA, if you are then the Enhanced Disability and Severe Disability Premium may be payable depending on your circumstances. www.gov.uk/disability-premiums/what-youll-get

You can put your information into one of the online calculators.
