PIP Washing upper back...confused was created by Meesh
I hope this is not a totally daft question, but in my medical profs report in the washing and bathing descriptor section I am asking to qualify for 4f. Needs assistance to be able to wash their upper body between the shoulders and waist. MP s comment is difficulties due to the inability to wash her upper back are not considered within the scope of this activity. I just don't understand this anyone else had similar comments? Apologies if this is explained in the guides as I am currently working through them. Many thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

It sounds as if the reasons that you gave for being unable to do this task were not relevant to it, so the Descriptor itself refers to the assistance that you would need making it a physical activity so if you stated you could not do it for a mental health reason, as an example, then this may be why they have said what they have.
Of course, if your issue is a physical one then the above would not apply but you should still review what you said on your form and at the assessment.

Thanks Gordon, I understand what you are saying. It isn't a mental health reason, it's physical. Will certainly review what was said. Was a telephone assessment and the hp report seems to more holes in it than a sieve.

I have similar statement, when HP asked about getting up and dressing, I said that due to stiffness caused by osteoarthritis I took my time and used an easy riser bed rail. I sometimes needed help from my husband with dressing upper part of body and had to sit down to dress lower parts of body due to poor balance and could not stand on one leg. On the report she stated that sitting on a chair or edge of bed was not considered within scope of this activity. Another activity where this statement was made was that cutting up steak was not considered within the scope of cooking. Nowhere did I mention 'steak' and the only reference to steak was in my application form where I said I used a steak knife to eat my meals.
I also noted loads of inaccuracies on the report, pure fabrication and I wrote to DWP as soon as I received the copy of the report pointing the errors out. It is disgusting how they get away with this.
