Thanks Gordon. I just double checked what the UC application form asked and we filled it in correctly stating full-time education. We have since sent them a letter from his college confirming, but the info was there from the very start. We have contact from multiple different offices, so was just worried who was seeing what info.
The letter from ESA is incorrect - it is asking us to send in a new Fit note or else his payment will stop, when we have only submitted a claim. Was just going to send the fit note, as requested and say it's for his ESA claim?
And yes, I'm writing with two fans pointed at me!
Thanks
Julie

The letters for ESA are appalling, they use lots of standard letters which often don't meet with the claimant's circumstances.
You can send a copy of the Fit Note electronically, see

Thanks Gordon
I did as you suggested and uploaded the Fit Note online - unfortunately I did it in the morning, only to discover that the deadline they had given me for returning it was the same day I received it, but hopefully that won't be a problem.
I've now received a much more official letter today, saying my son does not have enough National Insurance Contributions, as expected.
It says they cannot pay ESA from Aug 2020, but then goes on to say he might need to see a Personal Advisor or attend an assessment in order to continue . But it then asks if we want to pursue a mandatory reconsideration of the decision - are we okay to just ignore that and wait to hear if they want to do a WCA? Thanks in advance, Julie

Yes, you can ignore the MR, the Decision is only about whether he has the necessary NI Contributions which he does not as he has not worked.
RightsNet, the forum for Welfare Rights Workers is reporting that there has been a temporary relaxation of the rules regarding full time students claiming UC, this may explain why they are progressing his claim without the problems I expected.

Thanks Gordon - I saw that they introduced new regulations overnight (5th August) - we did make the claim before the new regulations and he is in non-advanced education, rather than higher, but if it's going through, for whatever reason, then we are happy bunnies - thanks for your guidance
