Information sharing problem and question

It annoys me when the mental health team talk about me behind my back.

My mum is my support worker and My mental health team is not allowed to speak to my mum.

My mum has found a loophole however that ‘she can speak to them’ and ‘tell them things’ which is causing me no end of hospital admissions and stress!

Because she know nothing about mental health.

Is there anything I can do?!?

Hi Pip

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, unfortunately your question is not something we can answer as it is outside our remit.

You may want to consider contacting your local Citizen Advice or Independant Advice Centre who may be able to help or guide you.

If you are unhappy with your support worker then try and change to a new one.

Have you tried local advocacy services? They may be able to provide an advocate to speak on your behalf rather than have professionals simply accept your mother's version of events?

In some areas you would get help from PALS that is Patient Advocacy Liaison Service. However how good and available they are for different parts of the health service and areas of the country varies. I tried quite hard to track down the ones relevant to my sister's mental health support in NE London and never got anywhere. [Whereas the ones for a big northern hospital that caused problems for my husband have been excellent].
Also, although you are the cared-for rather than the carer, you might get information on who can help, from your local Carers' Association. They might also have a group or phone contact service that could help your mum, maybe if she was talking to someone else she wouldn't keep on to your MHT so much causing you all these problems.
Very much hope these ideas come up with something for you.

Hi Pip

Like Gary I was sorry to hear of your difficulties, as he has said though your query is really outside the scope of this forum as we are set up to give information and support regarding disability and health benefits rather than more general health issues. As your concern relates to services provided to you by the NHS there is in fact a service set up to specifically help with such matters and I suggest you contact them to discuss your concerns.

The service is called PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service.) Quoting from their website:

"How can PALS help?

PALS provides help in many ways. For example, it can:
help you with health-related questions
help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS
tell you how to get more involved in your own healthcare"

That to me seems to cover the situation you have described so I suggest you contact them yourself. Their webpage, which also gives details on how to contact them is at the following link: www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/nhs-s...and-liaison-service/

I hope you find this information helpful and that contacting them will help resolve the issues you have with the NHS treatment you are receiving.

Kind regards

Mr B
