Degree funding while on ESA & PIP was created by redredwall
Hi all
I am currently in the support group for ESA and daily living for PIP fur several mental health issues.
I would love to be able to study online from home and work towards a degree if possible and have looked at a few course on the Open University but unfortunately the fees are impossible for me to afford
Are there any ways to access funding for tuition fees. I wouldn't be able to use the usual Student Loans due to starting a degree many years ago and incurring debts with them.
Also, would studying affect my benefits in any way?
Thank you.

Studying with the Open University should not have any effect on your benefits as all of their courses are classed as part time.
As to funding, your best option is to contact the OU as they will have all of the up to date information.
Any Student Loan that you receive will be treated as income for any Income Related benefit that you receive and will need to be declared to the DWP.

Thank you
I did contact the OU but they basically pointed me in other directions all of which ended up as dead ends.
I was wondering if there were any options open for funding for someone in my position but unfortunately it seems there isn't.

Hi redredwall
There may be companies out there that may want to sponsor you, depending on what you are studying.
Have you tried Turn2us? Not only do they check benefit entitlements but they can also check what grants from charities you maybe eligible for, their contact number is 0808 802 2000.
